Magda Kurzawska / Clinic Director
The field of psychology/psychotherapy is the one I feel really passionate about and I have been involved in this field for over ten years.
I gained my academic and clinical training from respectively:
Adam Mickiewicz University – Clinical Psychology, University College Dublin – Counselling (Addiction) and Independent Colleges – Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy. During my studies I gained beneficial clinical experience working within multi-disciplinary teams and working one-to-one with patients in a variety of healthcare institutions such as Psychiatric Clinic of the Poznan Medical Academy, Merchants Quay Ireland or at the Department of Liaison Psychiatry in the Mater Misericordiae Hospital where patients were referred to see me by the psychiatry team.
I consider my education and theoretical background as a very important component of my professional knowledge and I keep current in my science by studying and attending various educational seminars throughout the year, I would say however, that the most valuable is not my theoretical knowledge but my work experience; experience of actual being in the therapeutic situation with patients, the actual knowledge about them gained from being in the therapeutic relationship.
Currently I work as a psychoanalytic psychotherapist in private practice as well as in the non-profit organisation providing mental health services.
I work with adult clients presenting with various issues including depression, anxiety, addictive behaviour, bereavement, relationship difficulties, obsessive thoughts and compulsive actions, panic attacks, eating disorders or phobias...
In my work I focus on the therapeutic relationship with my patients and I try to offer a confidential, safe and private place where their inner world can be played out, emotional conflicts can be relived and new solutions can be found to problems.
As a bilingual therapist I conduct my sessions both in Polish and English, depending on the preferences of my patients.
I am a member of The Association for Psychoanalysis and Psychotherapy in Ireland (APPI) - the professional body for Freud / Lacan psychoanalysis in Ireland.
In addition to abiding by the Ethical Guidelines of APPI, I am engaged in Continued Professional Development.
